2020 USATF Championships:  Application for 2020 USATF Track and Field championship meets is now available at noc.mach2k.net.  The window for applying will remain open until midnight (Pacific) on Oct. 15.  MASTER AND NATIONAL LEVEL OFFICIALS may apply for the four meets listed below.  Competition officials for these meets will be chosen the USATF Selection Committee on Dec. 2-4, 2019. 
  • USATF Indoor Championship - February 14-15, 2020 - Albuquerque, NM
  • USATF Indoor Combined Event Championship - Date/Site TBD
  • USATF U20 Championship - June 12-14, 2020 - Miramar, FL
  • US Olympic Track & Field Trials - June 19-28, 2020 - Eugene, OR
Young Officials Grants:   Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Young Officials Grant program.  Certified officials who are 40 years of age or unde and who have never officiated a USATF Senior Indoor or Outdoor or U-20 championship meet are eligible to apply.  Fifteen grants of $500 will be awarded to help offset travel costs for young officials to work the 2020 Youth Indoor, Youth Outdoor, Masters Indoor, Masters Outdoor, or Junior Olympics T&F meets.  The application can be found at http://www.usatf.org/Resources-for---/-groups-officials-/N-O-C--Young-Officials-Grant.aspx

2019 San Diego Track & Field Officials Association Annual Meeting:   The San Diego T&F OA annual meeting was held on Saturday, January 12.  Officers elected were President Jay Beltz, Vice President Gary MacDonald, Secretary Lillian Mahoney, and Treasurer Anne Rentz.  

2019 SD T&F OA Certification Workshop:  The workshop was held Saturday, January 19. If you missed it, check out the workshop being given by the Youth Committee on February 17.  Details are on the calendar below.


Al Dandridge inducted into SD County Sports Officials Hall of Fame:   Long-time starter and T&F official, Al Dandridge, was inducted into the San Diego County Sports Officials Hall of Fame on October 3, 2017.  Check out the story at the San Diego County Sports Officials Hall of Fame or at  The San Diego Village Voice & Viewpoint.  The same edition (October 12, 2017) had a story about Norman Powell, son of T&F Official Sharon Powell.

Certification for 2017-2020 Olympiad:   All certified officials must be recertified every 4 years.  For information on the process for certification and recertification, go to USATF's Officials Certification Process and Certification Forms and Rules Reviews.   Use the 2016 USATF Rule Book for the rules review.  You must be a current member of USATF to be fully certified.

2019 National Officials' Regulation:  
The National Officials' Regulation contains information for all officials, including requirements for each of the Certification Levels. 

2019 Rule Books:   See the Officials Resource Center/Current Rule Books and the 2019 USATF Quick Reference Guide.   For a comparison of rules for the different governing bodies, purchase Jim Hanley's 2019 Track & Field Rule Book Differences at jim.hanley.cc.  Also check out Eric Zemper's 2019 Rule Changes Summary and CommemtaryNote:  In 2019 the IAAF changed the time limit to 30 seconds for all field events except the pole vault, and NCAA and USATF followed (except for youth).  Then IAAF changed the time limit back to one minute - USATF changed also, but the NCAA did not.  Check out (and print out) the latest Field Event Time Limits.


Uniforms:   The local uniform consists of white shirt and khaki slacks, shorts or skirts.   Morgan's Monograms is the local source for officials' shirts.  Take your own white shirt (or purchase at Morgan's) for the embroidered USATF Certified Officials logo and your name (optional).
